Women, Thompson Win at Sea Beggars

(VENTURA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Golf took first place at the Sea Beggars Invitational and freshman Noelle Thompson finished atop the women's leaderboard to claim her first collegiate win. In the men's tournament, Westmont claimed second place with Cooper Allen finishing fourth to lead the Warriors.
 
The tournament was played at the Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
 
The women's team shot a two-round 610, outpacing second-place The Master's by 21 strokes. The Warriors carded a 311 in the first round, then dropped their total by 12 strokes to post a 299 on day two.
 
Five Warriors finished in the top seven led by Thompson who totaled 146 (+4) over the two rounds. In the first round, Thompson went four over for a score of 75. Then she carded the lowest round of the tournament with an even-par 71.

Charlie Bloom finished third with a score of 150 (+8) and Sydnee Magpoc posted a 154 (+12) to take fifth place. Mallory Hopper notched a sixth place finish with 155 (+13) and Elizabeth Oleteo tied for seventh with a score of 160 (+18).
 
The men's team posted a score of 573 for two rounds, five back of first place The Master's. Allen recorded an even-par 71 on the first day, then shot a one-over 72 on day two to finish with 143. Right behind him were Noah Lodewyk and Peyton Hendricks who tallied 144. Lodewyk shot a 75 (-4) on day one, then rallied on day two with a two-under 69. Hendricks tallied 72 (+1) for both rounds.
 
Brock Yurkovich and Trevor Moquin both tied for ninth place with scores of 146. Both had rounds of 71 on day one and 75 on day two.
 
The women's golf team will not be back in action until March 14-15 when they play in the Augustana Spring Fling Invitational at the Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert. The men's team will next compete on March 4-5 in the Nighthawks Invitational at the Callippee Preserve Golf Course in Pleasanton.
