(SOLVANG, Calif.) Three Warriors finished in the top eight at the TMU Dutch Classic held at Alisal Ranch Golf Course. The event was the second of the year for Westmont Men's Golf.

"As a team, I was proud of the way we battled throughout the tournament," said Westmont's head coach Leo Maes. "However, on both days, we struggled to sustain momentum after building some strong stretches of play. That's an area we'll look to improve in as we move forward."

Freshman Santiago Lopez Ortiz finished in third place with a one-under 143 after posting rounds of 71 and 72. Sophomore Nicholas Rocha and freshman Fernando Jimenez each tallied 145 and finished in a five-way tie for fourth place. Jimenez recorded a 74 on day one, then recorded a one-under 71 on day two. Rocha carded an even-par 72 in round one and 73 in the second round.

As a team, Westmont finished fourth of seven teams with a score of 591 (+15). Vanguard won the tournament with a team score of 569 (-7), Chapman was third at 577 (+1) and The Master's was third at 586 (+10).

"Overall, this was a good event to help us prepare for the final leg of our fall season in Monterey," said Maes. "The team is excited for the opportunity to compete against top schools — not only within our conference, but across the entire region."

Westmont is scheduled to compete in the Otter Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay on Monday and Tuesday, October 13-14. The tournament, which features 16 teams from Division II, will be held at the Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside.

"In the short time before Monterey, we'll continue to focus on keeping our faith first, academics second, and preparing mentally and physically to perform at our best," expressed Maes.
