(FRESNO, Calif.) Competing in its first dual meet of the season, Westmont Swim posted a 186-75 victory over the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific on Saturday. The Warriors finished first in 11 of the 14 events. College of the Sequoias also participated in the meet, which took place at Clovis North High School.

"We had a great day racing," said Westmont's head coach Jill Lin. "We won almost every event and got first and second in both relays. It was exciting to see the depth of our team."

The event started with the 400 yard medley relay which saw Noelle Landon, Abby Rickard, Emma Bustamante and Kate Spraul take first place in a time of 4:04.72. Megan Traina, Madi Edwards, Daisy Marquardt and Katlyn McCurtain posted a time of 4:09.49 to finish second.

"Before the week, we talked about how going first and second in the 400 yard medley really would give us the momentum we needed to take the meet," recalled Lin. "That really set the tone for the rest of the day."

Westmont claimed first through fourth finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle by Grace McAnear (11:14.46), Izzy Garcia (11:26.23), Emma Robertson (11:33.95) and Tiffany Ball (11:48.11).

In the 50 yard butterfly, Bustamante posted a time of 26.97, out-touching a Fresno Pacific swimmer by 0.30 seconds.

"We knew we were really going to have to work for the close races and be better at finishing our races strong if we wanted to win this one," reported Lin. "The Warriors really showed up today. We even had a couple of lifetime best times & lifetime no-tech-suited best times: Emma Bustamante in the 50 and 100 yard butterflies, and Noelle Landon in the 100 yard backstroke.

Westmont also finished first through fourth in the 200 yard freestyle led by Spraul (1:59.13), McKenzie Rion (2:02.65), McCurtain (2:02.83) and Traina (2:04.89).

"Kate Spraul won two individual races and was on two winning relays," pointed out Lin.

Madi Edwards claimed first place in the 200 yard individual medley, posting a time of 2:16.86 and Bustamante picked up another win in the 100 yard butterfly, with a time of 1:00.45.

"Overall, it was a really good day for us and definitely got the team excited for our mid-season meet," said Lin. "It's good to see them swimming fast right now and be so excited to race.

"I'm really proud of the effort and energy they brought today. They've created such a positive and supportive team environment and with that they get to celebrate each other's victories like they were their own."
