(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Fernando Jimenez posted a one-over par 217 in three rounds at the RCA Electric Spring Invitational to finish atop the player leaderboard. Played at the Coyote Creek Golf Club, the event featured seven NCAA Division II teams. As a team, Westmont finished in third place.

"Fernando entered the final round in fourth place before staging an impressive comeback to claim the individual medalist title," said Westmont head coach Leo Maes. "He fired a four-under-par 68 in the final round, securing his first victory at the NCAA Division II level."

"Fernando has been a leader for this team since September. He continues to grow in his faith and academics and finds truth throughout each day. We've had plenty of discussions about how to win. I believe Fernando does that by preparing properly day to day, with the emphasis not on trying to win but being ready when the opportunity appears.

"We are proud of him, and I believe he will continue to contribute to the foundation and culture here at Westmont."

Nicholas Rocha finished tied for 14th with a three-round total of 232 (+16) and Jose Lincon posted a 234 (+18) to tie for 20th place.

Owen Bousman, playing individually, also tied for 14th.

"The opening day consisted of 36 holes, and the course proved challenging with wind gusts reaching 24 mph, testing the field throughout the competition," reported Maes. "With five holes remaining in the final round, the Warriors were just three shots back of first place, putting themselves firmly in contention late in the tournament.

"As a team, I'm proud of the way we competed. We continue to take steps in these tournaments that highlight growth. To be positioned with an opportunity to win the tournament with only a few holes left is exactly where we want to be. We are young, but we have a great group of individuals who believe in team golf.

"The ride home was full of smiles, laughter, and brotherhood. The future continues to look bright for Westmont golf."

The Warriors will next compete at the Sam Proal Invitational in Pueblo, Colorado on the final Monday and Tuesday in March.
