(AZUSA, Calif.) A select group of Westmont athletes competed this weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University. The meet produced five personal bests, including a performance that ranks among the best-ever for the Warriors.

Sophomore John Sakaguchi soared to a new personal record of 7.32 meters (24-1.5) in the long jump. He finished fifth out of nearly 50 competitors in the event with a mark that ranks fourth all-time in the Westmont record books. Sakaguchi also ran 10.97 in the 100 meters.

Hunter Skoglund, a freshman, ran a time of 3:54.51 to place 14th out of 148 in the 1500 meters. The time cut nearly four seconds off his previous best performance. Junior Tyler Allan also ran a career-best time in the 1500, finishing in 3:57.31.

Another personal best came from Claire Van Horn, who posted a time of 2:16.04 in the 800 meters. Janelle Wanliss ran 1:03.91 in the 400 meter hurdles, just off her best time, while Madeleine Koenig cleared 3.50 meters (11-5.75) in the pole vault.

The final personal record came from freshman Crusoe Buzzard, who shaved off some time in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 55.03.

In other results, Lucas DeDora ended fourth in the javelin with a distance of 60.36 meters (198-0), and David Oyebade came in ninth in the hammer with a toss of 52.95 meters (172-8).

The Warriors will now set their sights on the PacWest Championships, which will be hosted by Point Loma in San Diego, April 23-25.
