Westmont Men's Golf competed this week in Colorado at the Sam Proal Invitational at the Pueblo Country Club, finishing 16th out of 18 teams.

"While the outcome wasn't exactly what we had hoped for, there were several positives to take away," explained Westmont's head coach Leo Maes. "The biggest highlight came from Santiago Lopez Ortiz, who recorded his collegiate career low in the third round with an impressive score of two under (69). His performance was a strong step forward and a great sign of progress."

On the first day of competition, Lopez carded an even-par 71 in the first round and then shot a 78 in the second round. His three-round total of 218 (+5) resulted in a tie for 28th place out of 102 competitors.

Fernando Jimenez recorded rounds of 75, 76 and 76 to post a three-round total of 227 and tie for 62nd.

"Overall, the trip was valuable for the team as we continue to develop and prepare for our next tournament at Sandpiper," expressed Maes. "It also served as an important opportunity to build team chemistry heading into conference play in mid-April."

On Monday and Tuesday, April 6-7, the Warriors will play closer to home when they participate in the UCSB Invitational at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta.
