Mary Ellen Brown

A Westmont alumna, Mary Ellen Brown has served as the throws coach for Westmont Track & Field since 2015-16. She has coached Warrior throwers to earn four NAIA All-American honors. Additionally, she has coached throws to Warrior combined event athletes, who have earned NAIA All-American status 14 times, including four national championships, since Brown joined the coaching staff.

Brown is the Westmont record holder in the javelin at 45.97 meters (150-10), Brown is the third best athlete in program history in both the shot put and the discus.

After spending a year at UC Davis where she played shortstop on the softball team, Brown transferred to Westmont. In her second and third years, Brown played on the Warriors’ volleyball team. She became a member of the track and field team in her second year at Westmont and competed for three years.

Mary Ellen graduated from Westmont with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Biology. She went on to earn her teaching credential in physical education, biology and health education from Westmont before receiving her M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Cal Lutheran.

Brown is also a teacher at Goleta Valley Junior High School. She and her husband, Steve, have one daughter, Kierstin.
