Tom FitzSimons joined the Westmont coaching staff ahead of the 2016 season and primarily serves as the pole vault, horizontal jumps, and relays coach.

In the pole vault, FitzSimons has coached athletes to 12 NAIA All-American awards. In 2019, he coached Seth Wilmoth to the NAIA Indoor National Championship in the Men's Pole Vault and Dana Nemitz to the NAIA Outdoor National Championship in the Women's Pole Vault, helping them both set school records. 

In 2021, he coached Wilmoth one final time at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, helping the senior break his own record and win the National Championship once again.

FitzSimons was named the 2019 USTFCCCA Outdoor West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. He also holds accreditation by the USTFCCCA for Strength & Conditioning

He coached the Westmont women’s track and field team to three consecutive GSAC titles from 2017-2019 and the men’s team to four straight conference championships from 2016-2019.

In total, the men's team has garnered 31 All-American awards and the women's team has earned 49 since FitzSimons joined the coaching staff. Warriors have claimed a total of 10 national championships with FitzSimons on staff.

FitzSimons is a five-time USA Championships qualifier in the Decathlon and secured a bronze medal finish at the 2014 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. FitzSimons finished fourth at the 2015 USATF Championships and competed in the 2016 US Olympic Trials. Twice, FitzSimons competed for Team USA in Germany in the multi-event competition, the Thorpe Cup.

A native of Hamden, Connecticut, FitzSimons graduated from Mount St. Mary’s University in 2011. During his time as a Mountaineer, he earned second team All-American honors in the Decathlon. He also completed his MBA while at The Mount in 2013.

FitzSimons is also on staff with the Santa Barbara Track Club, the club for which he competed, where he assists in coaching professional Track & Field athletes for national and Olympic level competition. While assisting Coach Josh Priester, FitzSimons has coached at multiple USATF Championships, the 2019 Pan American Games and 2019 IAAF World Championships.

FitzSimons recently married Barbara Nwaba, who competed in the 2016 Olympic Games for Team USA in the Heptathlon and is now also on the Westmont Track & Field coaching staff.
