Melissa Katherman joined the Westmont Athletic Training staff in July 2019 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and was promoted to Head Athletic Trainer soon thereafter.

Katherman's first full season as head athletic trainer was cut short in 2020, due to the outbreak of COVID-19. After the struggle of the hiatus, Westmont athletics returned with a chaotic schedule in 2021, with a vast majority of the school's 17 athletic programs competing during the spring semester.

Katherman and her staff were tasked with double-duty more days that not, but the success of Westmont's athletic teams showed their efforts were not made in vein.

During the 2020-21 season, Westmont athletic teams claimed five regular season GSAC Championships, won a GSAC tournament championship, advanced all 17 programs to postseason play and participated in 12 NAIA National Championships.

Prior to Westmont, Katherman was a part of the California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Sports Medicine team as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer from 2017-2019. She served as the primary athletic trainer for Women’s Water Polo and Assisted with Men’s Soccer. While at CSUN, Katherman received her Master’s of Science in Kinesiology.

Katherman is from La Verne, Calif. and attended the University of La Verne, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. While attending The University of La Verne, she gained experience with Track and Field, Cross-country, Women’s Volleyball, Baseball and Football. During her last semester of the Athletic Training Program, she expanded her experience by working in a physical therapy rehabilitation clinic.

Katherman has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) since 2014 and is a Certified Athletic Trainer by the NATA.
