During Sarah Murray's six seasons as an assistant coach, the Warriors reached the NAIA national championship game for the first time in program history in 2019 and have won two GSAC Tournament titles, three outright GSAC regular season crowns and another shared conference regular season championship.
Murray returns to the staff in 2023 as the Warriors begin competition at the NCAA Div. II level.
Recently, Murray has taken on an expanded role in recruiting for the club, in particular aiding Coach McGolpin with in-person recruiting.
Murray, formerly known as McGough, played all four seasons at Westmont, where she graduated in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Sarah played as an opposite and outside hitter throughout her career at Westmont. In her senior season, the Warriors went undefeated in the regular season (31-0) and reached the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament. After graduating, she stepped straight from the court into the coaching box, joining the staff of her alma mater.
"I am very excited to be a part of this coaching staff," Murray said when she was hired. "I am incredibly grateful to be able to stay with the Westmont volleyball program. I am very eager to take in everything I can and learn from the amazing coaches who I get to work with daily. This is an amazing place to be because I love Westmont and this team has become my second family. I am blessed to continue to be a warrior."
As a senior, Murray was also honored with the Golden State Athletic Conference Cliff Hamlow Character Award.
"I hope to bring a couple of different aspects to the program," Murray said. "I am very passionate about this team, so I hope the players can see that passion everyday and it can be encouraging. I am also learning some amazing things about scouting so I hope to bring preparation to matches, as well as provide helpful in-game insight. I feel incredibly grateful and appreciative for this opportunity to continue to be a member of the Westmont volleyball family and learn more everyday."
Sarah married her husband, Jacob, in the fall of 2019, and the Murrays have a two-year old baby girl, named Emerson.
