Sunbirds Take Series with 11-1 Win over Warriors

Fresno Pacific (17-23, 12-16) completed a two-game sweep of the Warriors last night with an 11-1 win at East Clovis High School. With the loss, Westmont Baseball falls to 7-35 overall and 3-25 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Freshman left-hander Jon Sakoda (0-2) took the loss for the Warriors. He faced 23 batters in four plus innings of work, giving up seven runs on nine hits. Junior Jamie Barth took the mound in relief, giving up three runs on three hits in one and one-third inning. Sophomore John Evans took the mound in the sixth inning, giving the Warriors one and two-thirds innings on the hill. Evans allowed two hits and one unearned run. Senior Zack Turner pitched a final scoreless inning for the Warriors, allowing one hit.

The Warriors struggled at the plate, recording only five hits over nine innings. Westmont's lone run came in the fifth inning. Freshman left fielder Nate Dreesman reached first on an error by the shortstop and then was advanced to second when senior right fielder Darren Fouret was hit by a pitch.

Fresno Pacific starter Tom Hosack, issued a free pass to Westmont shortstop Philip Valle to load the bases and produce Westmont's first real threat of the game – the bases loaded, no one out and the top of the order coming up to the plate. Dreesman scored from third when freshman centerfielder Nate Shaver grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.

Hosack claimed the win for the Sunbirds, striking out eleven Warriors in seven innings, while allowing three hits and one unearned run.

On Saturday, the Warriors will host The Master's (14-31, 5-23) in a doubleheader which will be the final home games of the seasons. Next Friday, May 5, Westmont will conclude the season in Santa Clarita against the same team.
