Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Niboli's Penalty Shot Gives Warrior's Win

Playing in the rain at Russ Carr Field, Westmont Men's Soccer and Hope International played nearly 82 minutes of scoreless soccer before the Warriors' Anthony Niboli converted on a penalty kick, giving Westmont the 1-0 victory. With the win, the Warriors improve to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

With less than ten minutes left in regulation, Westmont freshman Henry Sarmiento passed the ball to sophomore forward Dan Sargent in the upper left-hand corner of the box. Sargent was fouled by a Hope International defender, setting up the penalty kick by Niboli.

The Royals (7-2-1, 1-2) adopted a defensive strategy for the game, dropping extra men back for coverage. While Westmont out shot Hope International 13-2 and held a 3-0 corner kick advantage, they struggled to get the ball past the extra defenders and into the net.

Westmont keeper Justin Etherton picked up his third shutout of the season while recording one save.

Westmont will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Cougars of Azusa Pacific at Russ Carr Field. Kick off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
