Westmont Women's Soccer treated a homecoming crowd to a 3-0 victory over the Royals of Hope International (8-1-2, 1-1-1 GSAC) on Saturday at Russ Carr Field. With the win, the Warriors improved to 2-1 in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings and 3-5-1 overall.
Freshman forward Shanae Coker put the Warriors ahead early, scoring in the thirteenth minute by dribbling past her defender and scoring an unassisted goal. Westmont went up 2-0 on a goal by sophomore midfielder Jenna Nelson in the fifty-ninth minute. Jameshia Washington passed the ball from the left-hand side. The ball bypassed senior forward Amy Lawson in front of the net and found Nelson who scored from 18 yards out.
Washington would connect for a goal of her own in the seventy-fifth minute of play. Washington converted from just outside the box after receiving a pass from junior midfielder Jessica Zuelsdorf on the right flank.
The Warriors out shot the Royals 14-7 in the game and held a 5-1 corner kick advantage. Sophomore Roxanne Love and freshman Natalie Johnston shared goalkeeping duties to record a team shutout.
Westmont returns to Russ Carr Field on Tuesday when they will host the Cougars of Azusa Pacific. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
