Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hat Trick No Treat for Warriors

Eighteenth-ranked Westmont women's soccer had an opportunity to earn the second seed in next week's Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. To do so, they needed to upset #6 California Baptist (14-3-1, 8-1-1 GSAC) in Riverside. But a scoreless performance by the Warriors and a hat trick by the Lancers' Lindsey Merrett, denied the Warriors the number two seed.

The 3-0 loss means Westmont (7-7-2, 6-3-1 GSAC) will be seeded third and host #22 Concordia (7-4-4, 3-3-4 GSAC), the sixth-seed, in the opening round of tournament play. The game will be played at two o'clock on Tuesday, November 4.

Merrett scored her first goal in the twenty-third minute off a cross from Giannina Loza. Merrett struck twice in the second half within three minutes time. In the seventieth minute, she scored on a give-and-go from Diana Ravenda. Then in the seventy-third minute, Loza and Ravenda teamed up to get the ball to Merrett who sent the ball into the net at the far post.

California Baptist, which earned the number two seed, will host seventh-seeded Fresno Pacific (8-6-2, 4-6 GSAC). Despite a 3-1 loss to Vanguard (9-4-3, 4-4-2 GSAC), #3 Azusa Pacific (14-2, 9-1 GSAC) won the conference regular season championship and the top-seed. The Cougars will host eighth-seeded Point Loma Nazarene (10-5-3, 3-4-3 GSAC). Vanguard will be the number five seed and play at fourth-seeded The Master's (10-4, 5-5 GSAC). The semifinals will be played on Friday, November 7 and the championship game on Friday, November 14.
