Magdaleno Homers Twice as Warriors Split Doubleheader

Junior Mark Magdaleno homered twice, once in each game of Saturday's doubleheader against San Diego Christian (7-9, 2-7 GSAC), as the Warriors split with the Hawks. Westmont (3-16, 2-9 GSAC) won the first game by a score of 10-3 but dropped the second by a 12-4 margin.

In the first game, Magdaleno sent a towering shot to left field which bounced off the top of a 25 foot pole supporting the "screen monster" and continued over the fence for a solo homerun. In the second game, the switch-hitter turned around to hit from the opposite side of the plate and powered the ball over the right field fence for a three-run bomb.

Senior Drew Dowl pitched a complete nine-inning game for the Warriors to improve his record to 1-1. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking two.

Left-hander Eddie Pryor took the loss for the Hawks after allowing four runs, two-earned, on four hits in three and two-third innings of play. Pryor struck out three and walked six.

Westmont shortstop Mike Zettl went three-for-three at the plate with 1 RBI in the first game and reached on a walk. Left fielder Taylor Grace went three for four with a double, picking up an RBI with each hit. Center fielder Taylor Maddox walked four times and scored twice, Boujikian was two for four with a double and two runs scored.

Tim Crabbe took the loss in the second game, giving up six runs on four hits. Austin Bellanich pitched all seven innings for the Hawks, giving up four runs on ten hits.

Magdaleno was two for four in game number two with two runs scored and three RBIs. Designated hitter Sam Wiley was two for three with a walk and a run scored. Also two for three was first baseman David Stout.

Westmont returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Santa Clarita for a three o'clock game with The Master's.
