Warriors Send Panthers Packing

Westmont's Keith Johnson pitched a complete nine-inning shutout and third baseman Jordan Bottenfield went five for six at the plate with three RBIs, as the Warriors defeated the Panthers of Principia (Ill.) by a score of 12-0 on Friday at Russ Carr Field on Friday afternoon. Westmont
improved its record to 7-21 while Principia fell to 3-4.

Johnson allowed just five hits while striking out 13. He allowed four walks while improving his record to 2-4. The Panther's Stuart Waller was assigned the loss.

Bottenfield started things off for the Warriors with a lead-off double to right-center in the bottom of the first. One out later, Bottenfield was thrown out at third as designated Sam Wiley reached first base on a fielder's choice. Wiley scored on a single to right by catcher Mark Magdaleno. Charles Whitman, who served as a courtesy runner for Magdaleno, stole second base and then scored on a double down the left field line by Mark Boujikian.

The Warriors added four more runs in the second inning after shortstop Zeke Torres led off with a walk. Torres stole second base and scored one out later on a single to right by Bottenfield. A double down the right field line by Stout brought Bottenfield around to score. After a walk to Wiley, Magdaleno grounded out to first which moved Wiley over to second base and Stout to third. Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch. After Boujikian walked, Maddox singled to right field to drive in Wiley.

With the Warriors batting around in the second inning, Torres led off again in the third, this time on an infield single. Torres advanced to second on a ground out by left fielder Brent Meschuk. A single to left filed by Bottenfield drove in Torres for the Warriors' seventh run of the game.

Westmont picked up two more runs in the fifth inning after right fielder Taylor Grace singled to center. Torres followed Grace with another single, giving the Warriors men on first and second with no outs. One out later, Grace scored on a single down the left field line by Bottenfield. Torres advanced to third when Pete McCarthy, now serving as the designated hitter, flied out to centerfield. Torres then scored on a wild pitch.

The Warriors final three runs came in the eighth inning. Luke Yardy, who took over at second base in the top of the fourth, walked with one away and then took second on a wild pitch. After a walk to Whitman, Yardy advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on another. A walk to Marcus Adame gave the Warriors men on first and second with one away. Torres then grounded to the shortstop who threw out Whitman at third. Torres and Adame advanced a base on another wild pitch and both runners scored on a single to left field by Meschuk.

The Warriors tallied 16 hits and received eight walks in the one-sided affair. Torres was two for four with four runs scored while Meschuk was two for five with two RBIs. Yardy was two for two with one run.
