Rueff Scores Twice in Warrior Win

Freshman forward Aolani Rueff scored two goals as #17 Westmont defeated the visiting Vulcans of Hawaii-Hilo 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Peg Lovik Field in a double-overtime game.

The Warriors (1-1) fell behind the Vulcans (0-3) by a score of 1-0 when forward Lauren Minami scored from 15 yards out in the eleventh minute of play. Minami received a diagonal pass from defender Vanessa Butin and scored from just right of center.

But Rueff gained the equalizer for the Warriors in the twenty-ninth minute. Rueff's goal came directly off a throw-in from the right-hand side line by defender Kayla Barkett. The junior tossed the ball to Rueff who was left unattended. Rueff blistered a shot past the Vulcan goalkeeper.

While Westmont out shot Hawaii-Hilo 17-9, it wasn't until the eighth minute of double overtime that the Warriors found the net again and gained the victory. This time, Rueff scored an unassisted goal from 20 yards out on the left side.

The Warriors enjoyed an 8-0 corner kick advantage, three of which came in the overtime periods. Of Westmont's 17 shots, six were on frame. Junior goalkeeper Roxanne Love tallied five saves for the Warriors.

Westmont will be back in action on Saturday when they host Southern Nazarene (Okla.) at La Playa Stadium on the campus of Santa Barbara City College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
