Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors' Offense Struggles against Cougars

Azusa Pacific (11-1-2, 6-1-1 GSAC) came into Thorrington Field on Wednesday afternoon and demonstrated why they are the NAIA's third ranked team. The Cougars handed Westmont Women's Soccer (6-6-2, 3-4 GSAC) a 2-0 loss while controlling field position for the majority of the game.

The Cougars scored in the sixteenth minute on an unassisted goal by Laura Feehs. Heidi Witschi passed the ball from the right sideline to Feehs in the center of the field. Feehs shook her defender and fired from 15 yards out, putting the ball in the upper corner of the net.

The Cougar's second goal came in the eightieth minute when Brittany Flanagan dribbled toward the goal a right-hand corner of the net.

Westmont goalkeeper Roxanne Love kept the Warriors in the contest with five saves including a spectacular save in the twenty-third minute. The Cougars' Markie Gleason was one-on-one with Love and fired from 10 yards away. But Love dove to her right and grabbed the ball to prevent the score.

The Warriors' offense struggled to get the ball around the Cougar's goal. Westmont's best opportunities came in the fifty-eighth minute. Leeza Henderson drilled the ball from 35 yards out on the right hand side. Cougar keeper Michelle Wieland just got a hand on the ball before it deflected off the cross bar.

The resulting corner kick was taken by Britney Scannell and sent to the far side of the net. Aolani Rueff headed the ball in front of the net and Jameisha Washington fired off a quick shot but it was denied entry by Wieland.

Westmont will return to action on Saturday as part of a men's and women's doubleheader against Hope International. The men will kick off at noon with the women's game scheduled for a 2:30 start.
