Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warriors Humbled by Eagles

Westmont Men's Soccer (6-2-2, 1-2 GSAC) suffered its worst defeat in nearly 17 years on Tuesday night at a Golden State Athletic Conference game played in La Mirada. The Warriors fell 5-0 to Biola (4-5-1, 2-1 GSAC) with the Eagles scoring goals like voters casting ballots in a Chicago election – early and often.

Biola's first goal came in the fourth minute when Zach Bautista received a corner kick from Tony Montalvo and put the ball in the net from outside the box. Then with just two and one-half minutes to go before halftime, the Eagles struck again. Kenney Anderson crossed the ball near the end line to the front of the net where Marco Ruvalcaba finished the play to give Biola a 2-0 advantage.

Seven minutes into the second half, Kennedy Chongo crossed the ball from the right side of the field and found Phillip Friehe who touched the ball into the goal.

Starting goalkeeper Matt McNab was replaced in goal by junior Sean Linn, but that did not solve the Warriors woes. In the sixty-fifth minute, Chongo, assisted by Bautista, beat Linn to score and then did it again in the eighty-second minute, this time assisted by Ruvalcaba.

The last time the Warriors lost by five goals was on October 18, 1993 when they fell to UC Santa Clara by the same 5-0 score. They went on to win the NAIA District III Championship that year and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, posting a season record of 16-4-4.

The 2010 Warriors will attempt to right the ship beginning on Saturday when they travel to Irvine to take on another convocation of Eagles – this time of the Concordia variety (6-4, 1-2 GSAC). Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
