Warriors Victims of Walk-off Hit

Up 3-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, Westmont Baseball gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth and fell to Menlo in Atherton in the first of three games against the Oaks. With the loss, Westmont falls to 3-4 on the year.

Westmont fell behind 1-0 in the first inning on a home run by Menlo first baseman Shane Parsons. But the Warriors manufactured a run in the top of the third inning to pull even with the Oaks. After reaching first on an infield single with two away, Westmont left fielder Coby Cress stole second base. Second baseman Jordan Bottenfield stepped to the plate and drove Cress home with a single to center field.

In the top of the fifth inning, third baseman Zeke Torres led off with a double to left-center. Torres stole third before center fielder Terrell Wong hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Torres home.

The Oaks answered back in the bottom of the fifth after right fielder Sam Dodge was walked to start off the inning. Dodge reached second on a sacrifice bunt by left fielder Joel Hull and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Dodge then scored on an infield single by center fielder Paul Oakley to tie the score at two runs apiece.

In the top of the eighth, Cress led off with a walk for the Warriors and was sacrificed over to second when Bottenfield laid down a bunt. Colton Christianson brought the go-ahead run home with a single to right field.

Westmont's Jacob Regalado started on the mound for the Warriors. He pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits. Regalado struck out six and walked four. Dan Price took the mound in the eighth inning in relief of Regalado.

Menlo second baseman Christopher Dailey led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk. Two outs later, he scored on a double to left-center by Hull. Oakley then stepped to the plate and produced a walk off RBI-single to centerfield.

Price (1-2) was assigned the loss while Menlo reliever Brendan Moe, who faced only one batter, was awarded the win.

The two squads will square of tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
