Warriors Record Second Tie in as Many Days

Like the day before, Westmont Men's Soccer (2-0-2) settled for a 1-1 time after two overtime periods in the final day of the Heritage Club Classic.

Westmont's Isaac Thompkins put the Warriors up 1-0 over Holy Names (0-1-1) less than three minutes into the second half. Neither Thompkins nor freshman Nana Akyen. who was credited with the assist, played in the first half but both started the second half. Akyen fed the ball to Thompkins on the right side of the field who scored from 15 yards out.

In the seventy-first minute, the Hawks recorded the equalizer. Henry Goh scored the goal off a corner kick by Martin Meastratti.

In the day's first game, Azusa Pacific earned a 4-0 win over La Verne. The game remained scoreless until a controversial call in the forty-first minute that resulted in a red card and penalty Kick. A shot by Azusa Pacific's Nathan Nienhuis was deflected by Holy Name's keeper, Jonathyn Lomeli. With Lomeli out of the way, Brett Taylor retrieved the rebound and fired away at the goal. The Hawks' Taylor Hart threw his body across the goal and deflected the ball out of bounds.

Taylor was issued a red card for an intentional hand ball and ejected from the game despite protests by the Hawks. Azusa Pacific's Vinicius Dantas converted the penalty kick, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead before the half expired. Playing with a man-up advantage, the Cougars added three goals in the second half.
