Box Score
After holding the NAIA's twelfth-highest scoring team to 22 points in the first half, Westmont Men's Basketball's defense had trouble keeping the Cougars of #5 Azusa Pacific out of the net in the second half of Saturday night's Golden State Athletic Conference game. The Cougars (23-3, 14-2 GSAC) outscored the Warriors (18-7, 10-6) by a score of 53-23 in the second half to secure the 75-46 victory. On the offensive end, Westmont struggled to get the ball inside to
Evan Haines and
Blake Bender. Collectively the duo took just nine shots on the night.
Conversely, Westmont set a new single-game record for three-point field goal attempts at 37. Unfortunately for the Warriors, only eight of those shots went through the net.
Preston Branson led Westmont with 18 points and nine rebounds and was the only Warrior to score more than five points. Azusa Pacific had five players in double figures including Caleb Burgess (17), Reggie Owens (16), Robert Sandoval (15), Marshall Johnson (15), and Danny Nugent (10). The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday night as they host The Mustangs of The Master's College in a 7:30 p.m. game. [
