Westmont Men's Soccer fell to 0-2 on the season after losing to Grand Canyon (Ariz.) 3-1 on Saturday at the Azusa Pacific Cougar Classic. Grand Canyon scored a single goal in the first half and added another six minutes into the second frame to take a 2-0 lead.
Westmont pulled to within one in the seventy-second minute when Davis Darnall scored from the top of the box. Isaac Thompkins was credited with an assist on the play.Grand Canyon respond with a goal just over a minute later to account for the final margin.
Grand Canyon outshot the Warriors 10-5 in the contest, including 6-2 in the second half. Westmont goalkeeper Matt McNab was credited with three assists.
The Warriors will return to action on Saturday, September 3 when they host the Heritage Club Classic at Thorrington Field. The first game, which begins at 1:30 p.m. will feature Azusa Pacific and Cal State San Marcos. Westmont will play against Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in the four o'clock game.
The Classic will resume on Monday, September 5 with Azusa Pacific taking on Rocky Mountain at 1:30 and Westmont facing Cal State San Marcos on four o'clock.
