Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lopez' Equalizer Goes for Naught

With the Warriors down 1-0 at the start of the second half, Westmont's Marcos Lopez scored just eight and one-half minutes into the second half to tie the game. However, Westmont would give up a goal in the eighty-third minute as the undefeated Bearcats of McKendree (4-0) posted a 2-1 win over the Warriors are Thorrington Field.

"It was more of a real soccer game," said Wolf of the Warriors latest loss. The team is off to a 0-5 start. "It feels like it has been a while since we have played in a real game. That is positive. They really fought hard today for the entire game. By the end, I think there were some guys who were suffering physically from putting out a big effort."

While the Warriors' effort showed no sign of giving into the frustrations of the season, they also didn't find the offensive fire power they have been lacking.

"We get a goal, but we get it from a back," noted Wolf. "The only front player whom we have on the score sheet (this season) is Sean (Siemens). At some point, it is about productivity. We haven't been able to generate enough of it."

McKendree's first goal came in the eighteenth minute of play. Anthony Grant passed a ball ahead to Tom Ward who beat the Warrior defense and bounced the ball of the left post and into the goal.

Lopez scored on a header, taking a corner kick from Nana Akyen and lofting it over the Bearcat keeper's head.

The winning goal was also set up by Anthony Grant who passed ahead to Kavel Smith for the game winner.

McKendree tallied 17 shots, nine of which were on goal, That compares with Westmont's 14 shots, only two of which were on target. Andrew Singer, making his second appearance in goal for the Warriors, produced seven saves.

"I ended up altering the line-up pretty significantly," reported Wolf. " I came into the week with a plan, but ended up scraping it just before our team talk. I just couldn't get comfortable with it. The way the game unfolded, we were able to get some things out of it. We had some players that I didn't have in mind to go today, but to whom we went back. There were some good responses. Isaac Thompkins and Jordan Correa especially came in and made something happen for us.

After an alumni game next Saturday, Westmont will host Wheaton on Saturday, September 24. Start time for both events is three o'clock.
