Westmont Women's Soccer (1-1) put on a dominating performance in its home opener at Thorrington Field on Saturday. The Warriors shutout William Jessup (1-3) by a score of 3-0 and dominated in nearly every statistical category.
Junior midfielder Haley Yurtin scored the game winner in the ninth minute of play, firing the ball in from 25 yards out. Freshman Mallory Mitchell then added both insurance goals, scoring in the forty-first minute and in the eighty-third minute of play. The goals were the first of Mitchell's collegiate career.
The Warriors fired off 26 shots in the contest compared to only a single shot by William Jessup. Fifteen of Westmont's shots were on target, making it a long day for William Jessup goalkeeper Morgan Kinyon who tallied 12 saves.
Mitchell's seven shots led the Warrior team, followed closely by Christine Adams who made six attempts.
The Warriors will have little time to celebrate their victory, since they will be back in action on Thorrington on Monday morning at eleven o'clock to take on the Battlin' Bears of Rocky Mountain.
