Warriors Make Hawks Fifth Victim in a Row

Box Score Westmont Men's Basketball (11-2, 3-1 GSAC) shot 61.9% from the floor (26 of 42) including 58.3% from three-point range (7 of 12) as the Warriors earned an 86-61 Golden State Athletic Conference victory over San Diego Christian (4-7, 0-4) on Saturday night in Murchison Gymnasium. "It was the Landon Boucher-CJ Miller show," said Westmont head coach John Moore. "They shot it exceptionally well, CJ didn't miss any shots. He played a great game against Vanguard and continued to ride the momentum he was on. Landon played well in the Byron and followed in the footsteps of that momentum swing. Landon was playing aggressively, was finding shots that were his shots, and was comfortable shooting those shots."
Boucher made 5 of 7 from the floor - two of three from three-point range - and all six of his free throw attempts. Miller made seven of seven from the field including three of three from beyond the arc. He was also two of two from the charity stripe. Also producing a perfect shooting night was Jordan Sachs, three of three from the floor, including a three-pointer, and two for two from the line to tally nine points. Up 16-14 with 11:40 to play in the first half, Westmont took control of the game with an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to go up 27-14.

By halftime, the Warriors were up 44-23. Westmont never led by less than 15 in the second half and enjoyed a 30-point advantage as late as 1:27 left in regulation. Westmont's 61.9% field goal percentage was the eleventh-best in Warrior history. In a night filled with upsets in Golden State Athletic Conference play, #15 Biola (12-4, 2-2) knocked off #1 Concordia (13-2, 3-1) by a score of 83-68 in La Mirada. Point Loma Nazarene (9-4, 2-2) upset #24 Fresno Pacific (10-5, 1-3) in Fresno, defeating the Sunbirds 70-64. Hope International (8-3, 1-3) nearly handed The Master's (12-3, 4-0) its first conference loss, but the Mustangs prevailed 59-58 in overtime. Ninth-ranked Azusa Pacific (13-2, 3-1) survived a close one in Costa Mesa, defeating Vanguard (9-6, 1-3) by a margin of 67-63. As a result, The Master's sits atop the conference standings at 4-0. Azusa Pacific, Concordia and Westmont are tied for second with 3-1 records.

Biola and Point Loma Nazarene each claim a share of fifth place at 2-2. Hope International, Fresno pacific, and Vanguard are in a three-way tie for seventh place at 1-3 and San Diego Christian is without a win at 0-4. Next up for the Warriors is a rivalry game in La Mirada against the Eagles of Biola on Tuesday night. The game will be the ninety-ninth played between the two teams with the Warriors enjoying a slight 50-48 advantage. "Biola is playing good basketball," said Moore. "In addition to beating number one Concordia by 15 points tonight, they led Azusa Pacific late in Azusa and forced the Cougars to rally to beat them. They are always hard to play at Biola. You have to play a very solid game to beat a team of that caliber." [box score]
