A late goal by Notre Dame de Namur ended a scoreless stalemate, resulting in a 1-0 loss for Westmont Men's Soccer on Saturday in Belmont. The Argonauts' Mikh Wingate-Pearce headed in a free kick by Jesus Gonzalez to secure the win.
The Warriors were outshot 21-7 in the contest with Westmont placing just two shots on goal, both by Nana Ayken. Westmont goalkeeper Matt McNab recorded five saves in the contest.
"The guys actually played very well today," said Westmont head coach Dave Wolf, "against a very good opponent, under real physical circumstances. I challenged them to elevate their level of performance against a team that was going to be really good. I thought they did just that. They battled and fought hard.
"We had an unfortunate lapse there at the end of the game on a free kick that got served into the box and it cost us," continued Wolf. "It was a very difficult ending for us, but they put a great effort in today."
The Warriors do not have a game scheduled for next week but will be preparing to host La Sierra on Monday, September 18. Kick-off is schedule for four o'clock on Thorrington Field.
