(La Mirada, Calif.) Westmont Men's Soccer renewed their annual rivalry with Golden State Athletic Conference adversary #8 Biola in La Mirada Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, for the Warriors, the only contest of the 2013 regular season against the Eagles did not go as strategized, as Biola (8-2-1, 2-2 GSAC) overwhelmed Westmont (6-4, 2-2 GSAC) by a score of 4-1.

"It was certainly a disappointing game for us," said Westmont assistant coach Johnny Whallon. "We clearly did not secure the start that we wanted and quickly found ourselves in a hole that was hard to climb out of."

Behind the production of Eagle forward Daniel Chew, Biola rapidly mounted a 3-0 lead. Just 19 minutes in, Chew had assembled a hat-trick before the Warriors chronicled a shot attempt.

"After the third goal we righted the ship defensively," explained Whallon. "We made a couple of changes in the second half that were good lifts for us, but it was hard to claw back in at that point."

The lone goal for the Warriors came in the 58th minute when Nana Akyen netted a ball from 15 yards out for his third score on the year.

Whallon added that the team "will use the defeat as an opportunity to show our toughness. We now have the opportunity to handle Concordia at home next week and turn things around after a bad loss. In eight of our 10 games we have really liked how we have played, so we're very happy with the season thus far."

As Whallon mentioned, Westmont will attempt to right the ship in their next GSAC contest against Concordia Wednesday, October 16. That match will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thorrington Field.
