Box Score Westmont Men's Basketball completed the Golden State Athletic Conference regular season with a 72-61 win at Biola (15-15, 5-9 GSAC) on Saturday night. The eighth-ranked Warriors (24-6, 12-2) shot 50 percent from the filed (26 of 52) and outre bounded the Eagles 42-24. "It was a good win for the Warriors tonight," said Westmont head coach John Moore. "I was proud of our guys, especially playing without
Preston Branson. I thought Mantas (Drungys) was particularly good tonight and our defense was impressive."
Drungys led the Warriors in scoring with 16 points while C.J. Miller added 13 points and pulled down six rebounds.
Cooper Damron recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four assists. The Warriors held a 32-22 lead at halftime and built their advantage by as much as 13 (47-34) with just under 12 minutes to play. However, the Eagles whittled away at Westmont's lead and came within one point (53-52) when Cody Whittick struck from three-point range with 4:26 to go. Westmont responded with a 13-2 run, which gave Westmont a 66-54 advantage with 1:19 to play.
Niko Brooks (7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists),
Jordan Sachs (6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) and
Brendan Hill (6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists) went six for six from the charity stripe in the final minute to secure the Warrior win.
In other GSAC games, Hope International (24-6, 9-5) defeated The Master's (16-13) by a score of 50-44. Concordia (19-10, 7-7) recorded a 91-88 overtime win over Arizona Christian (18-8, 8-6) and Vanguard (17-12, 6-8) needed overtime to post a 87-79 win over San Diego Christian (7-16, 4-10). Westmont finished atop the GSAC standings with a three-game lead over second-place Hope International. Arizona Christian took third place, one game behind Hope International and one ahead of Concordia in fourth place. Vanguard was the fifth-place team, one game ahead of The Master's and Biola who tied for seventh place. San Diego Christian finished eighth. Not since the 2000-01 season have both the men's and women's basketball teams from the same institution finished first in the GSAC standings. Top-seeded Westmont will host San Diego Christian on Thursday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m. in a GSAC Tournament first-round game. With a win, the Warriors will host both men's semifinal games on Saturday, March 2. [
