Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors Finish Non-Conference Season Undefeated

Westmont Women's Soccer, ranked at number six in the NAIA, completed its non-conference season on Friday with a 1-0 win over Marymount (2-3) at the StubHub Center. Alison Hensley recorded her fourth goal of the season in the fifty-seventh minute to give the Warriors the win and a record of 6-0-1.

"It was a really hard game to play in," said Westmont head coach Kristi Kiely. "They kept a lot of numbers behind the ball and inside their own half. It made it hard to get anything in. I was really proud we got the result."

The Warriors outshot the Mariners 21-2 in the game but settled for a scoreless tie at halftime.

"The halftime talk was that this is a hard game to play in and it is not going to change," said Kiely. "Someone has to do something about it. Who knew it was going to be our holding mid – again? It was one of the most beautiful goals I have seen. I am very glad for Alison. She is having a terrific season, probably in the position that she is made for."

Brooke Lillywhite passed the ball from the center of the field back to Hensley who took the shot from 25 yards out, placing the ball in the far side of the goal.

"All week we have talked about closing this season out well," said Kiely, "I think we have and I am proud of the team for doing that."

Westmont will now take the rest of September off before beginning conference season on October 1 against Vanguard. The game will be played at Biola in La Mirada because the field at Vanguard is under construction.

"We have a little bit of a break, a little bit of time to heal and little time to regroup mentally before going against the number two team in the country," said Kiely. "The top five teams in the GSAC have a combined one loss. There are four teams ranked in the conference with a fifth receiving votes, so there is no game we can take lightly. With the first game being Vanguard, it is certainly going to be a test right away. But it will be a fun test and a good test and we are looking forward to it."
