Westmont Men's Soccer (7-3-2, 4-1-2 GSAC) settled for a 1-1 tie with Concordia (8-3-2, 4-1-2) in today's Golden State Athletic Conference game at Thorrington Field. The Warriors scored in just the second minute and held on to a 1-0 lead until giving up the equalizer in the 75th minute of play.

"You saw a couple of good goalkeeper performances today," said Westmont head coach Dave Wolf. "I think Josh Glover is having a great year. One of the issues that we have eliminated this year is that we have not given up any bad goals – at all. And, Josh has taken a couple of pretty sure goals away.

"On paper, this match-up was the team in the league that scores the most goals (Concordia) versus the team in the league that concedes the least (Westmont). Holding them to one goal is noteworthy and obviously, Josh played a big part."

The Warriors' early goal came after Austin Lack dribble down the field and fired a ball that ricocheted off Concordia goalkeeper Jordan Brinkley's foot and up into the air. Matt Lariviere was on the right side of the net and headed the ball into the goal for the score.

Concordia's equalizer came off the foot of Edgar Orozco, the Eagle's leading goal scorer. Orozco received a pass from the left sideline, turned, beat a defender and fired off a shot to the far post.

As a result, the game headed to overtime.

"I was very proud of how the team played in the overtime periods," said Wolf. "I thought after 90 minutes of hard labor they really found something down deep in the overtime periods and that was pleasing to see. They were able to produce some very good moments and a couple of decent chances."

Wolf was also pleased with the play of senior midfielder Sebastian Kent.

"I thought Sebo was outstanding," said the coach. "He is very important to our team. We have five senior and three of them our out injured right now. He stepped into a big void with those guys being out and performed very well."

In other action today, #25 Hope International (12-2-1, 7-0) posted a 1-0 win over William Jessup (0-6-1, 3-8-1) to hold on to its unblemished conference record and first place in the standings. The Royals need just one win to clinch the regular season championship.

The Master's moved into sole possession of second place with a 2-0 win over Arizona Christian (3-11, 0-7). The Mustangs have 16 points in the standings (three for a win, one for a tie) and hold a two point lead over Westmont and Concordia who are tied for third. However, The Master's has just two games remaining in the regular season while all other teams have three opportunities to add to their point totals.

Next week, the Warriors will travel to Costa Mesa on Tuesday to take on the Lions. Then on Saturday, Westmont will host Biola in the final home game of the season. The following Wednesday, Westmont will play at William Jessup in the regular season finale.
