Despite outshooting Kansas Wesleyan 15-9 and placing six shots on goal to the Coyotes' (pronounced KY-yohts) four, Westmont Men's Soccer (2-2) suffered a 1-0 loss in overtime today at Thorrington Field.

"I thought we looked very good in the first half," said Westmont head coach Dave Wolf. "In the second half, we weren't quite as sharp. When you don't score a goal when you are playing well, it gets very difficult in this game."

In the first half, Westmont held a 10-4 shot advantage, but couldn't find the back of the net. The second half saw a more balanced stat sheet with Westmont posting four shots on goal to Kansa Wesleyan's three.

The winning goal came in the 99th minute of play when Jesse Lennon took a shot from 20 yards out on the right side. Lennon's shot went into the top front corner of the goal on the left side, hit the bracing inside the goal and bounced back out. However, the assistant referee signaled that the ball had completely broken the plane and the Coyotes (4-1-1) were awarded the win.

Honored at halftime of the game were members of the 1989 Westmont Men's Soccer who were the last Warrior team to reach the NAIA National Championships Semifinals. Coach Bob Fortosis and captains Rob Ring and Mike Avery addressed the crowd after the 13 players that were present were introduced by name.

The 2014 edition of the Warriors will return to the pitch on Tuesday when they host the Mariners of Marymount (Calif.). Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
