(ROCKLIN, Calif.) The Westmont Warriors (10-6, 3-1 GSAC) headed up north earlier this week for a two game road series. They certainly started the trip off well with a 67-58 win over the William Jessup Warriors (9-8, 1-4 GSAC) this evening.
Daniel Carlin opened up the offense for Westmont tonight by scoring their first six points of the game. From there, it was a process of moving the ball around, spreading William Jessup's defense and getting the ball to our open shooters.
While William Jessup tied the ballgame four times in the opening 20 minutes, they were never able to regain their footing and take the lead. Â Going into halftime, Westmont was leading 34-24.
When the final twenty minutes started winding down on the clock, William Jessup's team stepped up their game and intensity. They began to sink shots that helped them close the point deficit. With 12 minutes left in the game, the William Jessup Warriors, look the lead by two points. This was a turning point for Westmont who then not only stepped up their defense, but responded with an 8-0 run that gave them the momentum to close out the game.
"It was a good win tonight for our Warriors on the road," opened John Moore. Â "After William Jessup took the lead by two points in the second half, we had seven of eight defensive stops and scored on nine of our ten next possessions to command a double digit lead."
"Cory Blau was exceptional with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Britton Williams had one of his best games since he's been a Warrior. He made baskets late and at opportune times for us," continued Moore. "Hayden Anderson also played very well. He was 3 for 3 tonight—I don't think he has missed a shot in the last couple of games."
Blau was the sole Warrior to get into the double-double zone with 26 points, 10 rebounds. Williams and Carlin both finished with 10 points and a handful of rebounds each. Hayden Anderson was three for three from the field tonight, ending with a total of seven points. He has been a perfect six for six from the field in the last two games combined, making him a dynamic shooter and contributor on the court.
"It was a good win for us on the road. We have a long way to go, with a lot more season left, but it was great to pull this one out tonight," closed out Moore.
The Warriors progress to 10-6 overall, 3-1 in GSAC and will continue their Northern California road trip on Thursday at 7 p.m. as they go up against UC Santa Cruz.
