After 110 minutes of play, neither the #8 Westmont Women's Soccer team (9-2-2, 4-0-2) nor the #15 Vanguard University Lions (9-4-1, 3-2-1) could clinch a win. After 90 minutes of back and forth scoring, and a scoreless double overtime, the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Warriors scored first in the 19th minute when sophomore defender Ariel Johnston embarked upon an offensive drive down the left sideline. She played the ball to sophomore Jackie Lopez who one touched it back to her. Johnston continued her drive toward the goal and crossed the ball into the six yard box. Senior Kelsey Steck finished off of the cross with a slotted shot into the right side of the goal.
Vanguards' Alex Bachman answered back in the 25th minute when she poked in a jumbled ball off of a Vanguard corner kick to even the score.
The game remained tied until the 80th minute when Vanguard scored to take the lead. The goal began when Bachman lofted the ball to Cody Farell in stride. Upon receiving the ball, Farell accelerated towards the goal until she fired the ball into the bottom right side of the goal from 16 yards out.
One minute later, the Warriors equalized the score after Johnston drove down the left sideline on yet another crucial offensive drive. She played the ball up field to sophomore Haley Parzonko who sent a cross into the goal box. Steck capitalized again when she crashed into the box to score an upper left post header goal.
In overtime, each team had a few notable near goal opportunities, yet was unable to capitalize. Though the Warriors outshot the Lions 22-10, the game ended in a draw.
Next week Westmont will travel north to take on Menlo (8-3-4, 4-2-1) and William Jessup (8-6, 1-5).
