(SANTA BARBARA, Calif) The Westmont men's basketball team (17-8, 9-3 GSAC) had a very important win against William Jessup (12-15, 3-11 GSAC) tonight in Murchison Gymnasium. As conference play begins to wind down, every single win matters and tonight the men took care of business on the court with a 78-63 victory against the opposing Warriors.
"Defense ruled the night," opened head coach John Moore, "We did a really good job against Chris Murry who scored nine three-pointers in their last game against The Masters. Â He did not make one tonight and that is highly attributed to our defense."
The Westmont Warriors were locked in and loaded on defense this evening, holding the William Jessup Warriors to a 36.1 overall field goal percentage. "Nate Marsing, Hayden Anderson and Britton Williams all did a really nice job executing the game plan tonight. Our defense was is exactly what we needed it to be," continued John Moore. When any of those three players were guarding the ball, no easy shots were taken. Daniel Carlin had a game high of eight rebounds (three offensive, five defensive). The Senior center currently ranks among the top rebounders in the Golden State Athletic Conference with an average of 6.8 boards per game.
"Offensively we finally got Cory back to the way he has been playing all season," continued Moore. The sophomore guard was one of three players to reach double digit figures, putting 20 points on the board tonight. His three-point shooting game was nearly perfect as he went four for five from outside the arc.
"Sean Harman and Hayden Anderson shot well over fifty percent and reached double figures tonight. In fact, Hayden didn't miss one shot at all," exclaimed Moore. Harman made six out of his eight total field goal attempts, including two of his four three point shots this evening for a grand total of 14 points. Anderson had a perfect game, going five for five from the field– sinking two from the three point line. He also pulled down five rebounds and added two assists to the mix.
The men have a long, but very important road trip next week. They will be playing #7 Arizona Christian University (21-6, 10-3 GSAC) in Phoenix on Thursday February 19 at 6:30 PST. Two days later, on February 21, the Warriors will go up against San Diego Christian (5-16, 0-13 GSAC) in El Cajon, Calif. at 7:30 PM.
