Warrior Baseball Goes .500 on the Week

Turner Conrad Westmont Baseball (33-10, 27-9 GSAC) went 2-2 over the weekend in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The Lions of Vanguard (32-13, 25-11) took two from the Warriors in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday before Westmont claimed an 8-4 victory over William Jessup on Sunday afternoon.

In Friday's game, the Warriors fell 7-3 in a game that saw no extra base hits by either team. Russell Harmening (9-2) took the loss after pitching seven and one-third innings. Harmening gave up four runs on three hits. He struck out three and waked two. Graylin Derke went two for three in the game while Will Barring was two for four.

In the first of two games on Saturday, Westmont posted an 8-3 victory behind a complete game performance by Daniel Butler. In nine innings of work, Butler allowed three runs on eight hits. He struck out six and walked one.

Offensively, Michael Stefanic went three for three on the day with a sacrifice bunt and a stolen base. Ryan Crowe was two for three in the game with two runs scored and an RBI.

In Saturday's nightcap, the Warriors and Lions played to a one-run tie through the scheduled seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth, however, Vanguard shortstop Jose Rojas connected for a walk-off grand slam to give the Lions a 5-1 win.

Starter Andrew Vasquez received a no decision after pitching seven innings and giving up just one run on two hits. Vazquez struck out nine and walked four.

Barring was three for three in the game with a double. Stefanic went three for four.

Alex Bush took the mound for the Warriors on Sunday and claimed his third win of the season against one loss. Bush pitched five innings, giving up four unearned runs on six hits. He struck out one and walked one.

Barring hit three doubles in three at bats, scoring three times and driving in one run. Michael Pollex and Blake Matthias each went two for three while Bush was two for four at the plate.

With six games remaining in the GSAC season, Westmont is in second place in the conference standings, three games behind #6 The Master's (37-7, 30-6). The Warriors will host the Mustangs in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday. Friday's single game will begin at three o'clock with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for noon.
