An Offensive Flurry

Box Score

By Kaci Mexico

After a disappointing loss in a well fought game against Azusa Pacific University, the unsatisfied Warriors were determined to not only play well, but to also get a win in their next game against San Diego Christian.

With this fire in their bellies, the #7 Warriors (5-2-0) prevailed and kicked off their Golden State Athletic Conference journey with a 3-1 victory over San Diego Christian (5-2-1).

The first goal of the game came in the 23rd minute when Senior, Angela Brown crossed the ball to Junior, Brooke Lillywhite. Lillywhite settled the ball with one touch and confidently drove a shot over the keeper's head into the goal to make the score 1-0.

The Warrior's second goal came later on in the half in the 49th minute when Senior, Kelsey Steck played a perfectly placed and weighted through ball to Sophomore, Jackie Lopez. Lopez, the Warrior's number one goal scorer, slotted the ball into the lower right corner of the goal making the score 2-0 and giving her a total of five goals on the season.

San Diego Christian regained some momentum in the 69th minute when Vivian Oray scored off of a shot from 45 yards out to make the score 2-1; a notoriously dangerous score in the game of soccer.

The Warriors shut down this momentum and secured their lead with a third goal in the 83rd minute when Destinee Adams scored her first goal of the season with a 30 yard shot that dropped just over the head of the San Diego Christian goal keeper.

"The offense had a very dominating presence on the field today," reflected Head Coach Chantel Cappuccilli. "The amount of opportunities we created was phenomenal." The warriors had 27 total shots and 14 of those shots were on goal.

Cappuccilli continued to reflect on the overall strength of the Warrior offense.

She noted, "We have had nine different players score on the season- an extremely large variety. There have also been individual players who have been consistent scorers."

"It was nice to come out with a win for the first conference game and have that momentum moving forward." explained Cappuccilli.

Moving forward into conference play, the Warriors will host Hope International at 2:30 pm this Saturday on Thorrington Field in their second GSAC conference game of the season.
