All 16 players on the #21 Westmont Volleyball roster made it onto the court last night as the Warriors (7-2) extended their winning streak to six matches with a three-game sweep of Capilano of British Columbia (0-3). The Warriors, who posted set scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-11, have won their last 18 sets.
The Warriors jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the opening set and never looked back. The second set was much more closely contested. With the score tied at nine, however, Westmont scored the next three points – two on kills by Libby Dahlberg who finished with nine kills and a .600 attack percentage.
The Blues caught the Warriors again at 15, but Westmont rallied with a 5-0 run that included a service ace and a kill by Taylor Beckman (six kills, .250 attack percentage) and a kill by Jessica McCann (10 kills, posting a .250 hitting percentage) to take control of the set.
In the third set, Westmont used a 7-0 run to turn a 4-4 tie into an 11-4 advantage. McCann had back-to-back-to-back kills during that stretch.
Kami Troesh, who was named the Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Volleyball Player of the Week, tallied 18 serve receptions without an error and added 17 digs.
The junior from Newport Beach earned the award as a result of her contributions to last week's sweeps over Cal State San Marcos and Carroll (Mont.) at The Master's Labor Day Tournament. In those matches, Troesh tallied 11 serve receptions on 12 attempts and 12 digs.
The Warriors open Golden State Athletic Conference play with two matches this weekend. On Friday, Westmont will host William Jessup. Then on Saturday, the Warriors welcome conference newcomer Menlo to Murchison Gymnasium. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m.
