Box Score

By Kaci Mexico

Four Warriors scored in the double figures to contribute to a #2 Westmont Women's Basketball (17-2, 6-0) victory over William Jessup (13-6, 4-4). Junior Aysia Shellmire had 15 points, junior Cora Chan had 11, junior Aimee Brakken had 11, and sophomore Lauren McCoy had 11.

The Warriors dominated the first half offensively and defensively as they outscored William Jessup 41-16 and held them to only four points in the second quarter.

Westmont's most notable scoring streak was a nine-point run that began halfway through the second quarter. The run consisted of a jump shot by freshman Kayla Sato, a jump shot by senior Krissy Karr, a layup by Shellmire, two free throws by McCoy, and a free throw by senior Lauren Sende.

William Jessup fought to narrow the gap when they outscored the Warriors in the third quarter 16-10 (51-32). However, the Warriors ultimately solidified their lead and the victory when they outscored William Jessup 14-5 in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors dominated from the floor and had a shooting percentage of 45.8, while William Jessup shot at 30.4.

Head coach Kirsten Moore shared her thoughts on tonight's game.

"We played a fantastic first half tonight," noted Moore. "There were spurts where our defense was really dialed in and offensively we had another very balanced attack both inside and outside. It was nice to get back on track the last couple of games, especially since we are headed on the road for three tough games within this next week and a half."

Next Tuesday the Warriors will travel to Costa Mesa where they will face #10 Vanguard. The last time these two teams played was in December when the Warriors defeated the Lions 60-47.

Besides tonight's game, three other GSAC games took place. #10 Vanguard defeated Arizona Christian 79-66, #15 The Master's defeated Menlo 68-61, and Biola defeated Hope International 48-46.
