Westmont Falls to UC Berkeley

In their third game in under a week, second ranked Westmont Women's Basketball (1-0) played in an exhibition match against the University of California Berkeley in the incredible Haas Pavilion. The Golden Bears defeated the Warriors by a score of 87-48.

In the first quarter, the Bears outscored the Warriors 19-10, but the Warriors answered back in the second quarter with 15 points, to the Bears 17 points. The first half ended with Berkeley ahead by 11 points in a score of 36-25.

In the third quarter, the Bears increased their lead to a decisive 28 points when they outscored the Warriors 26-9; and in the fourth quarter the Bears put up 25 more points, with the Warriors scoring 14.

Berkeley had a consistent offensive effort and had an overall shooting percentage of .644 (38-59). Westmont shot at .302 percent (19-63); and Aysia Shellmire, Kayla Sato and Moran Haskin each scored double-digits with 10, 12, and 12 points respectively. Defensively, the Bears pulled down 39 rebounds and had 12 steals. The Warriors pulled down 29 rebounds and had four steals.

Coming up, the Warriors will host La Sierra on Saturday November 12 at 7:00 p.m.
