Warriors Finish Holiday Classic 2-0

Fourth ranked Westmont Women's Basketball went undefeated (2-0) in the Holiday Classic and improved to 12-1 on the season when they defeated British Columbia (12-5) by a score of 64-36. Lauren McCoy had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds; and Aysia Shellmire along with Kayla Sato led the Warriors in points with 13 each.

British Columbia's Kara Spotton was the game's leading scorer with 19 points – more than half of the Thunderbirds total points.

Two and a half minutes into the first quarter, Westmont had an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game (12-6). Shellmire, McCoy, and Morgan Haskin had a layup each, and Joy Krupa had two free-throws. However, the Thunderbirds answered back with a 7-1 run in the second quarter to come within three (17-20). After twenty minutes of high pressure defense from both sides, as well as back and forth scoring, the first half ended with a score of 29-23, favoring the Warriors.

The Warriors pulled further away and increased their lead to 16 when they kicked off the third quarter with a 10-0 run. McCoy had two layups and a free throw; and Cora Chan hit a three-pointer and two free throws (39-23). The Warriors did not let up in the fourth quarter and went on a 9-0 run to close out the game. Shellmire had a layup and the subsequent free throw, Haskin had two free throws, and Sato had a jump shot and two free throws.

Earlier this afternoon, The Master's (8-3) also went undefeated in the Holiday Classic when they defeated Southwestern (8-8) by a score of 74 to 56. For the Mustangs, Megan Lindsley and Hannah Ostrom led in scoring with 13 points each. For the Moundbuilders, Jordyn Miller led in scoring with 23 points.

Coming up next week, the Warriors will continue with conference play and travel to Phoenix, Arizona next Tuesday to play Arizona Christian at 4:30 p.m. PST (5:30 p.m. MST); and then the Warriors will host Biola on the following Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
