Â
(PORTLAND, Ore.) If #7 Westmont Women's Basketball (2-0) had questions about their guards' ability to score, the Warriors might be resting a bit easier after tonight's 86-44 win over Multnomah. Red-shirt freshman
Madison Kast had a near perfect shooting night and tallied 19 points while true freshman
Cassidy Tiegs tacked on 18 more.
Â
Kast made seven of seven from the field including three from beyond the arc. Her only miss was on one of three free throw attempts. Kast also pulled down five rebounds.
Â
Tiegs made eight of 11 field goal attempts, including two of two from long distance. She also notched eight steals, six rebounds and five assists.
Â
As a team, Westmont shot 54.2 percent from the floor, including 43.8 percent from three-point range.
Â
The Warriors wasted no time taking control of the game, outscoring the Lions 21-8 in the first quarter. The second quarter was a carbon copy as far as the score is concerned and gave the Warriors a 42-16 advantage at the half.
Â
By intermission, Tiegs had made 14 points, was six of nine from the field, had pilfered the ball seven times and had tallied five assists and three rebounds.
Â
In the third quarter, Kast added nine points to her seven from the first half as the Warriors extended their advantage to 62-27. In the fourth quarter, Westmont added 24 points to its total with six each from
Jae Ferrin and
Shelbie McKay.
Â
Ferrin ended the game with nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists while McKay recorded six points and four rebounds.
Â
Morgan Haskin also had nine points and contributed three rebounds and four blocks.
Lauren McCoy notched eight points, three rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Â
Tomorrow, Westmont will play an exhibition at Oregon, alma mater for Westmont head coach
Kirsten Moore. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
