(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) A come-from-behind victory in the first game and a sixth-run fourth inning in the second, gave #8 Westmont Baseball (5-0) what it needed to sweep Corban of Oregon (3-3) in a doubleheader at Russ Carr Field. Westmont won the opener 4-3 on a bases-loaded ground ball in the ninth before winning the nightcap by a score of 7-1.

Westmont's Daniel Butler started on the mound for the Warriors and pitched seven innings. Butler allowed three runs on seven hits. He struck out three and did not allow a walk.

Toby Dunlap earned the win for the Warriors by pitching the final two innings and retiring the side in order in both. Dunlap tallied two strikeouts.

Cody Schmidt led off the top of the third inning for Corban with a double down the left field line. Daniel Freiburger laid down a bunt, which Butler fielded and elected to throw to third. However, his throw was too late, resulting in runners on the corners with no outs.

An RBI-single to left by Ryan Rosas brought home Schmidt and moved Freiburger to second. Jackson Smith reached on a fielder's choice that moved Freiburger to third while Rosas was retired at second.

After Smith stole second, Drew Loera brought Freiburger home with a ground out to second base.

The Warriors pulled within one in the bottom half of the third after Matt Matlock produced a lead-off double down the right field line. Clarke Bader then drove in Matlock with a single to center.

Corban added to their lead in the top of the fifth when Benjamin Liogon singled down the left field line to drive in Smith from second.  The result was a 3-1 advantage for the Warriors from Oregon.

Luke Coffey brought the Warriors to within one run with a one-out solo blast over the right field fence in the bottom of the seventh.

A one-out walk to Michael Frigon in the bottom of the eighth set the stage for Westmont to tie the game. A single to center by Michael Stefanic moved Frigon to second before Derek Rodigo singled to bring Frigon home.

With two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the ninth, the Warriors cobbled together the difference making run. Austin McGilvra singled to center field and then took second when Connor McManigal singled to right. Frigon then walked to load the bases, bringing up Stefanic.

The junior second baseball hit a ground ball that was fielded behind the second base bag. Rosas, Corban's shortstop, scooped up the ball and flipped it from his glove to Freiburger covering second. However, Frigon, who had taken a healthy secondary lead at first and was off with contact, beat the ball to the base, thereby preventing the third out and allowing McGilvra to score the winning run.

Thirty minutes later, Matt Hartman took the mound for Westmont in game two. Hartford would be awarded the win after pitching six scoreless innings and allowing just four hits. Hartman struck out three and walked four.

Westmont sent ten men to the plate in the fourth inning and brought six of them around to score. Matlock got things started with a lead-off single to right and then reached third on a single down the left field line by Stefanic. A sacrifice fly by Rodigo brought in the first Warrior run.

Travis Vander Molen picked up an RBI when he tripled down the right field line. After a walk to Coffey, Bryce Morrison was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kyle Soria was credited with an RBI when he was walked, making the score 3-0. Soria was replaced at first by courtesy runner Taylor Bush. Frigon then stepped to the plate and delivered another triple down the right field line, tallying three RBIs in the process.

Corban's lone run came in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Ethan Bragg.

Westmont added one more run in the seventh inning after a lead-off single by Frigon and a sacrifice bunt by Shane Soria. With one away, Matlock drove a ball up the middle that hit the pitcher's mound and took a sharp left turn into the thigh of umpire Rick Wilson. The play was called dead, Matlock was awarded first on a single while Frigon, who had reached third, was directed back to second base. Stefanic, then, drove in his second run of the day with a single up the middle.

Cory Dawson, Rob Hill and Bailey Reid each pitched an inning in relief for Westmont. Dawson allowed one run on two hits in the seventh, Hill retired the side in order in the eighth and Bailey faced the minimum in the ninth after a hitter he walked was eliminated in a double play.

Westmont and Corban will conclude the three-game series on Monday at two o'clock.
