Aysia Shellmire scored 23 points in 27 minutes and pulled down nine rebounds to lead #6 Westmont Women's Basketball to an 81-40 victory over William Jessup (9-15, 2-12 GSAC) on Saturday night in Murchison Gymnasium.

Shellmire brought her career total to 1383 points, which is just four points shy of Westmont Women's Basketball career record set by Megan Fate in 2006 and again by Jessica Chase in 2010. With tonight's performance, Shellmire tied Truce Canitez who scored 1383 points in her two-year Warrior career.

Also scoring in double figures for the Warriors were
Morgan Haskin (14 points, 3 rebounds) and
Cora Chan (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists).
Lauren McCoy,
Kayla Sato and
Aimee Brakken each tallied eight points with McCoy collecting eight rebounds and Sato notching four rebounds and five assists.

Tied at four in the early going. Westmont went on a 9-0 run that including two 'and-one' plays by Shellmire and a 3-pointer by Chan.

After a pair of successful free throws by Jessup's Olivia Luu, Chan and Brakken scored from beyond the arc to give the Warriors a 19-6 lead with 3:40 remaining in the first quarter. By the end of the opening frame, Westmont had amassed a 27-11 advantage.

Westmont concluded the second quarter on a 10-0 run that included a lay-up by Haskin, a three from Sato, and two layups and a free throw by Shellmire. The result was a 43-17 halftime score.

The third and fourth quarters saw much of the same with Westmont ending the third period up 61-25. The Warriors' largest lead came with 1:50 to play when a jumper by Sato gave Westmont an 80-35 lead.

In other GSAC action, #3 Vanguard (25-2, 13-1) picked up a road win with a 58-47 victory over Arizona Christian (13-12, 7-7). Seventeenth-ranked Biola (21-6, 12-3) defeated Hope International (5-19, 0-14) in Fullerton by as score of 59-51. The Master's, ranked at number 21, earned a 62-50 win over the visiting Oaks of Menlo (9-18, 2-12).

On Tuesday night, Westmont will travel to Costa Mesa for a first-place showdown against Vanguard. If Westmont wins, the Warriors will have the opportunity to play for at least a share of the regular season championship on Saturday night when they play at San Diego Christian.

A victory by Vanguard would clinch the Lions the regular season championship and the number one seed in the upcoming GSAC Tournament.

The conference tournament will begin March 3 and 4 with the first two rounds hosted by The Master's.
