(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Home plate at Russ Carr Field suffered no ill effects from Westmont cleats on Friday afternoon as the home team was held scoreless in both ends of a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader. Westmont (22-15, 8-11 GSAC), hosting the Warriors of William Jessup (8-25, 3-16), was shutout in the first game 2-0 and 4-0 in the second.

Despite giving up just one run on four hits and striking out six in eight innings of work, David Gaydos (4-3) was charged with the loss in game one.

William Jessup scored in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Case on which Javier Garcia scored from third. Garcia had led off the inning with a double down the right field line and reached third on a single by J Torres.

The game's only other run came in the top of the ninth when Case again drove in Garcia, this time with a single to left.

Jessup's Tristan Pryblinski (1-5) was awarded the win after pitching seven innings and allowing seven runs.

In the second game, which was scheduled for seven innings, William Jessup sent Cameron Morrow (1-1) to the mound to face Westmont. With two away in the top of the first, Michael Stefanic doubled down the left field line. Morrow then retired the next 19 batters in order to secure the one-hit shutout.

William Jessup's scoring all occurred in the third inning, the result of five hits and one Westmont error. With the bases loaded and one away, Sam Curtis drove in the first two runs with a single up the middle. Justin Chase and Joey Torres each picked up an RBI on infield singles.

Grant Gardner (0-2) suffered the loss for Westmont. Gardner, who struck out seven over six innings of work, allowed just two hits other than the five surrendered in the third inning.

Westmont and William Jessup will conclude the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
