(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Cal State San Bernardino (0-0) spoiled the Westmont men's soccer (0-1) home opener today by a score of 3-0.

The first half ended in a stalemate as neither team conceded a goal. The Coyotes finished the first half with eight shots, one on goal, and the Warriors had six shots with one on goal.

Lalo Delgado came sliding out and contested a shot by Kieron Coleman in the sixth minute, making the save. Head coach Dave Wolf said, "We had a terrific save from Lalo on the one-on-one to keep the score level."

San Bernardino kicked the scoring off in the 51st minute when Humberto Salcedo fired a shot left of the box. Lalo dove to make the save, but Isaias Castellanos was there to finish the loose ball in the back of the net to put the Coyotes up 1-0.

The Coyotes struck again in the 72nd minute when Westmont gave the ball up in the midfield and Tony Lo broke away finding himself one-on-one against Delgado. Lo slipped the ball under Delgado giving San Bernardino a 2-0 advantage.

The final goal came in the 90th minute when Kevin Aguilar bulldozed his way through four Warrior defenders and fired a shot past Delgado putting the Coyotes up for the final score of 3-0.

Westmont did have their chances throughout the game, coming close on multiple occasions. Augie Andrade found himself one-on-one with Coyote keeper Jacob Huber, but was unable to get a shot off.

In the 22nd minute, Gabriel McEwen created space and got a shot off that banged off the left post and back into play.

When asked about the game today Wolf said, "Number one, outstanding opponent. I think secondly we were not tough enough on the ball. If you look at all three goals, I think what you'll see is that they're aggression turned us over.

"The season doesn't really start until you've been punched in the mouth. I think that we got that in the opener. Any delusions of grandeur that we may have had about the UCSB game - how good we're going to be this year. Those get put away now. Now you go to work. Ultimately the regular season is where the real data exists. I think there were some things that were good today, and some things that we'll end up appreciating about the game today. It doesn't feel that way right now."

The Warriors return to play next Saturday, September 2 against UC Merced. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
