(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Tennis took both men's and women's matches from Hope International this past Saturday. The men (4-5, 1-2 GSAC) edged out the Royals (4-7, 0-3 GSAC) by a score of 5-4 and the women (6-5, 2-1 GSAC) swept Hope International (0-10, 0-3 GSAC) 9-0.
Â
Hope International's women's team only had four players on their roster. This meant there were a few lineup changes for the Warriors.

In doubles play, Cade Person and
Taylor Cheung-Damonte defeated Jovana Milosevic and Matea Ancheta 8-1. Westmont's remaining two doubles teams won by default.
Â
In singles play,
Zarina Huber made quick work of Jasmine Hyacinth 6-0, 6-0 in the threes position for the Warriors. At twos, Cheung-Damonte triumphed over Ancheta 6-0, 6-2.
Tatum Phillips won a three-match thriller over Milosevic 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) for Westmont.
Isabel Lee, Pierson, and
Delaney Roche all won by default – giving Westmont the 9-0 victory.
Â
The men started their match with doubles play. Westmont's
John T. Joens and
Miles Hale took down Gabriel Bazertti and Jayke Ancheta 8-2 in the two position. At threes,
Jordan Strandness and
Corey Stephens pulled out an 8-5 victory over Sergio Romero and Antoine Voisin by a score of 8-5. Hope International's Kyle Rae and Aleks Trifunovic defeated
Luke Whalen and
Christian Mathis 8-6 at ones. Westmont carried a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Â
Joens kicked off singles with a Warrior victory as he took down Romero 6-1, 6-1. Strandness followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bazertti to give Westmont the 4-1 overall advantage. Stephens won the match-deciding fifth point for the Warriors with his 6-4, 6-0 win over Ancheta at the six position.
Â
The Royals would take the final three matches from the Warriors. At twos, Rae defeated Mathis 6-3, 6-1. In the four position, Voisin edged Hale 6-1, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-1). To round out the day, it took Hope International's Trifunovic three sets to triumph over Whalen at the one position with the score 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).
Â
Westmont Men's Tennis head coach
Mark Basham said, "I was concerned that this could be a tough match for us given the fact that Hope has a couple very good players and they are also stronger throughout the lineup. I was relatively happy with our doubles and very happy with how John, Jordan, and Corey performed in singles. We will need to play even better against Hope next Saturday."
Â
Both the men and the women will head to Fullerton this Saturday to face Hope International again in another Golden State Athletic Conference matchup. The women will start at 11:00 a.m. and the men at 1:00 p.m.
