(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) #16 Westmont Men's Tennis (6-6) completed an overall match sweep of Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) (15-7) winning by a score of 9-0 on Friday afternoon.
Doubles were played first. At twos,
John T. Joens and
Miles Hale took down Lawrence Hiquiana and Mouaad Alhouni 8-2 to kick off the scoring. At threes, Westmont's
Jordan Strandness and
Corey Stephens pushed past Gabe Steinwand and Grahamm Kellog by a score of 9-7. Extra tennis was needed to conclude the match at the one position. Westmont's
Luke Whalen and
Christian Mathis narrowly edged Michael O'Neil and Xavier Sanga 9-8 (8-6).
In singles play, Whalen made quick work of Mike Daniels at the one position winning 6-0, 6-0. At twos, Joens conquered Steinwand 6-1, 6-0. In the five position, Stephens triumphed over Alhouni 6-2, 6-0.
Austin Lee needed three sets to take down Kellog as he went on to win 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-1) in the six position for the Warriors. Strandness overcame a first set loss and came back to defeat Hiquiana 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4). Hale completed the 9-0 sweep for the Warriors as he triumphed over Sanga 6-2, 7-5.
The Warriors host #10 Arizona Christian today at 10:00 a.m. in a Golden State Athletic Conference matchup.
