(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.) Isabelle Berthoud scored the only goal of the game as Westmont Women's Soccer (2-1) recorded a 1-0 win over the Regals of California Lutheran.

"It was a really intense game," said Westmont head coach Jenny Jaggard. "I would say it was the best game our team has played yet. We moved the ball well.

"We scored in the 60th minute after Katie Stella drove the ball to the end line," reported Westmont head coach Jenny Jaggard. "She got behind all of the defenders, drove to the end line and then laid a beautiful ball back to Izzy who was right on top of the box. She made a perfect run in and struck it to the back post and scored a beautiful goal."

The Warriors outshot the Regals 18 to three, with Westmont holding a 12-1 shots on goal advantage. Westmont also tallied a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.

"We had the majority of possession, but there were some definite moments where Cal Lutheran countered on us and played some good balls too," said Jaggard. "It was a fun game to watch. It was pretty soccer. I would say that we definitely possessed better than I have seen us do so far this season."

"We had a lot of players that did some really great things today," continued Jaggard. "Maddy Cuculich did a great job playing our holding mid today. She had some absolutely amazing free kicks and near-goal opportunities. She held the defensive piece together, winning balls in the air and distributing.

"Savannah Scott played our right back because Eliya Lowe is recovering from the last game. Savannah did an awesome job of creating attacking opportunities. She got up a couple of times and sent some great crosses into the box. She was a solid defender, too, in her first night playing right back. That was fun to watch.

"Kaitlyn Merrell played our attacking center midfielder and she was fantastic today. Defensively she was winning balls in the air, pressing and picking balls off from their back line and creating attacking opportunities. She was spot on today."

Westmont will take a bit of a break from competition as classes start on Monday. The Warriors will take the pitch again on Saturday, August 31 when they take on the Battlin' Bears of Rocky Mountain (Mont.) beginning at 1:00 p.m. as part of a men's and women's doubleheader.
