Warriors Take Two

(BELLEVUE, Neb.) Westmont Volleyball (8-2), ranked at number 23 in the NAIA, finished off the final day of the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic with a pair of victories over Midwest teams. In the early game, the Warriors handed Morningside of Iowa its first loss of the year (6-1) with a four-set victory (25-13, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16). Before leaving town, Westmont swept Peru State (1-8) of Nebraska 25-10, 25-11, 25-18.
 
Junior outside hitter Hali Galloway led the Warriors with 10 kills while connecting for a .240 attack percentage. Senior right side hitter Cassidy Rea added nine more kills and four blocks while junior outside hitter Brooklynn Cheney contributed eight kills and 11 digs.
 
Leading 8-5 in the first set, Westmont went on a 10-0 run that included five service aces by sophomore setter Sydney Dunn – four of them in a row.
 
After dropping the second set, the Warriors took control midway through the third. With the score tied at eight points apiece, Westmont produced an 8-0 run to take a 16-8 lead. Rea tallied two kills during the run while Galloway and freshman middle blocker Lexi Malone teamed up for two blocks.
 
In the final set, the Warriors took control early. Westmont jumped out to a 12-4 lead and never led by less than six points the rest of the way.
 
Dunn recorded 23 assists in the morning contest while Lauren Friis notched 24 digs.
 
In the match against Peru State, Westmont posted a team attack percentage of .396. Rea led the way, recording a .588 attack percentage while delivering 12 kills on 17 attempts. Cheney posted nine kills and a .500 attack percentage while freshman Kendall Kenyon added eight kills and hit .316.
 
Freshman setter Keelyn Kistner recorded 26 assists for the Warriors and tallied 10 digs.
 
The Warriors begin Golden State Athletic Conference play next weekend, traveling to Arizona for games against OUAZ on Friday and Arizona Christian on Saturday.
